About The ADCA
The purpose of the American Dexter Cattle Association is to encourage the breeding of high quality Dexter cattle, to maintain an online herd book of ADCA breeders and registered animals, to maintain a system of registry for the registering of Dexters, to assemble and disseminate information about the Dexter breed, and, in general, to protect, improve, develop, and promote the interests and standing of Dexter cattle in the United States.
The association is led by the ADCA Board of Directors with much of the work of the association being accomplished by official ADCA committees, task forces, and work groups. Each board member serves on a committee, and breeders in the general membership are also encouraged to volunteer their time and expertise in committee service.
The ADCA Board of Directors consists of 10 Directors and 8 Officers that serve our national membership. Each member of the board owns Dexters themselves and is dedicated to the preservation of the breed and the flourishing of its reputation in the national agricultural community. Every board member is eager to see ADCA members prosper and is willing to offer their time, their advice, and their resources to help our community steward their herds well.
ADCA Directors are volunteer positions and serve without financial compensation. They are elected by the memberships in their regions, are voting members of the board, and serve for a 3-year term. Directors can serve for a second 3-year term if their regional members re-elect them. If a Director vacates their position before their term is completed, the Board of Directors will appoint someone to serve in their place until the next scheduled election.
The Immediate Past President, after stepping down from his/her Presidency at the election of a new President, also holds a voting position on the board.
ADCA Officers are elected by the Directors during the board meeting at the ADCA National Dexter Expo. Officers are non-voting members of the board that serve 1-year terms. Any of these officers can be re-elected for consecutive terms if the board chooses, with the President and Vice President allowed to serve 3 consecutive 1-year terms. The President, Vice President, and Parliamentarian are volunteer positions; they serve without financial compensation. The Secretary, Treasurer, Web Developer, and Registrar are contract positions that receive a stipend for their work.
